The Superbrands organisation has produced over 100 global branding events reaching approximately 30,000 delegates. These high profile events celebrate branding success whilst also providing brand guardians with insight and inspiration during their on-going brand presidency. The organisation’s events range from Tribute Events, often referred to as ‘Branding Oscars’, to business breakfasts. Networking amongst senior peers is always an important element as the Superbrands can cross-fertilise ideas or discuss partnership marketing opportunities. Sri Lanka's inaugural Tribute Event was held in March 2007 and it was a huge success. 50 brands were formally awarded their Superbrand status while the first Superbrands publication was also launched at this gala event. As a country which is new to branding, our objective is to create more awareness around this concept. In an environment where many businesses still believe that advertising is branding, there is a huge role to play to understand the power of branding. Hence, two eminent speakers presented their thoughts on this subject. Mr. Alok Nanada spoke to the audience on the strategic role that branding plays in business and Mr. David Haigh ( Managing Director of Brand Finance plc) spoke on value based marketing and the context of brand valuations. A related event called Brand New Branding was held the next day where new concepts and techniques of brand management was discussed in a one day seminar by Harish Bijoor – a brand expert. This event was a complimentary event for Superbrands. |
